Praise with Song and Words (Part 2)

I made the goal for this month to complete each week in the Experience God kit in one day. This option is one of two options given in the Teacher Guide.

60 Minute Weekly Routine:
Story Activity and Bible Verse Song for 5 minutes
Discuss and Do the First Two Activities for 15 minutes
Snack Time
Discuss and do the Second Two Activities for 15 minutes
Art Project for 10 minutes
Prayer and Bible Verse Song for 5 minutes

I broke this up in two posting - before snack and after snack.

This worked out really well for us and if you go in the order that Mother Goose Time has set up its the perfect mix up and timing of sitting, movement, sitting and listening, sitting and crafting. Perfect, as usual.

The scripture this month is from Deuteronomy 3:18. The Lord goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

STUCK TOGETHER

I cut up some scrap paper for each girl and told them that they could glue 2 pieces together and scatter the rest around the room. While we let the glue dry, we went around the room and blew the loose pieces of papers. They all blew away just as they had predicted. When the glue dried I had the girls try to separate them but they could not. I explained, "God sticks to us like glue. He will never pull away from us."

COUNT ON HIM

Let's add some math to the biblical teaching today. For Daniella, I gave her pom poms and flipped over an index card that had a number from 1-10. She worked on number recognition as well as counting. For Sonia, I gave her 2 cards and had her add and subtract the pom poms to do some simple math problems.

I explained, "We can always count on God. No matter how many troubles or scary lions we have, he will always be there to help us."

This turned into a side art project as both girls decided to make snowmen out of the pom poms. Thanks for getting the creative process flowing!

LION PUPPET

I laid out all of the supplies, gave the directions and let them create. While they created, I explained, "God can change our fears into joys. He can make scary lions into tame kitty cats."

After we were all done, we held hands and I prayed over them I asked, "God to be with the girls just as he was with Daniel in the lion's den".

We also use the preschool curriculum in our home school, if you want to read more about those lessons, read archived blogs or check back for future posts.

And for the Moms and Dads, I have begun a Christian based blog, Perfectly Imperfect Life Warriors, and I will be kicking off some great Bible studies to inspire and empower us as we walk with Christ together. Next on the agenda is Proverbs 31:2016 - 31 verses in 31 days! Check it out!

DANIEL AND THE LIONS DEN

We discussed the scariest things the girls have ever seen. The answers I received were quite comical. I had already started telling them we were learning about lions so they both said that they had dreams that lions were coming to get them. So imaginative...sort of! However, this was a great segue to the story cards because I said, well lets see what happened to Daniel when he really was next to lions.

We are also working with predictions with Sonia for Kindergarten so she predicted that the lions were going to eat Daniel.

Sonia was relieved that her prediction was wrong.

After I read the story cards, we all took turns roaring loudly like a scary lion.

I explained that "Daniel trusted God and knew that God would always keep him safe".

After they had sat and listened for a bit it was time to get up and run. I got into it too! We had a lion chase. We played a game of tag and when they were tagged they kneeled down and prayed just like Daniel.

I explained that "Daniel was put into a cave with some lions. The lions were hungry but didn't Daniel because he prayed to God".

Back to the table, to work on phonetics and letter recognition.

I wrote A,E,I, O, U on index cards and held them up. We watched a YouTube video on long vowel sounds. Daniella practiced recognizing the letters while Sonia worked on knowing what the long vowel sounds make. To make it even more fun, we said the sounds in screams as if we just saw a lion.

I explained, "God heard the noises that the lions were making. He also heard Daniel praying and asking for help. God hears everything."

Little Passports - Off to Brazil with World Explorer

Little Passports is fantastic!!!!

Wow! Our very first country was Brazil! This is terribly exciting as the girls father is from Brazil and Sonia felt right at "home". The World Explorer edition is for children ages 6-10. Sonia is only 5 but I thought it was best for us to get this one because she is very interested in the "big girl" material. Great decision for us, she was incredibly involved in all of the lessons and she truly loves this program. We completed this last week and she has asked every day if a new country has come yet.

We also ordered the Early Explorers for ages 3-5 for Daniella and we are waiting to receive it. There was a mix up on the shipping but, I will tell you, I contacted customer support and they were gracious, kind and prompt in rectifying our issue. This company has shown excellence in product and service!

Last month, we received our suitcase and the intro package. Sonia grabbed her suitcase and was ready to go! First things first, lets decorate our suitcase with the new Brazil stamp.

Before we travel out of the country we need our passport. Each time we enter a new country, we get a stamp for our passport. Sonia loved this and here is she placing her country stamp in her "passport".

Our tour guides are Sam and Sofia and they write us a letter from each country and bring us back a little something from there. From Brazil they brought us an Amethyst and a picture of our new monkey friend Danila.

I took this opportunity to expand on our knowledge of mining amethyst and popped on a youtube video that showed how they get it from Brazil. She loved it!

On the boarding pass each month, we get a special code that we enter in the website and get to do some computer work. There was a game, trivia and more pictures of places in Brazil with tidbits of information on each. Though the content was a little age advanced for Sonia, I still went through and asked her the trivia and we had a fun time guessing. This sparked some interesting conversation. Her dad and her watch futbol whenever it's on so the soccer game was right up her alley!

We took out the amazing map that was provided in the intro box and Sonia pinned Brazil! She was so excited to share this adventure with her sister, Dad, Vovo and Vovo!

She went to bed knowing that we were going to be baking Brigadeiros the next morning, a tasty Brazilian treat. She brought them with her to her Dads and they were quite impressed!

The next morning, she couldn't wait to show her sister "her" amethyst from Brazil and "her" monkey. She even let her touch it...once...just once!

Let's begin our baking adventure. Enjoy our pics!

This was a very special box for her as this is part of who Sonia is. She was excited to speak Portuguese to her father and have him teach her the proper pronunciation of Brigadeiro. Mommy ruined it ha!

This program is really shaping a love of geography for our homeschool, Our School of Grace. We anxiously await for next month's adventure to China!
