Shipwrecks
Let's be real here, how many of us would really ever think to introduce shipwrecks and x-ray fish to a 2 and 4 year old? I know that I never would have without the Mother Goose Time curriculum. How in the world do these people know that my kids would LOVE these lessons and that they would get so much out of it.
What could a shipwreck teach kids? Well, the short answer is...A LOT! The long answer is below.
Small fish will sometimes hide in a shipwreck to avoid danger.
Treasures such as gold, jewels and expensive art have been recovered by shipwrecks.
Shipwrecks still look like boats and some are broken in many pieces. Some have been recovered and are on display at the museum.
Shipwrecks are caused by big storms that create large waves in the ocean. The ships tip over or fill with water, then sink to the bottom.
Here's how I brought those concepts to their level, age appropriately.
The girls have discovered a ship wreck of broken pieces....let's gather them up!
All the pieces are gathered and the little divers can let go of their noses now that they are above water ;)
Let's put that boat back together!

Decorating our post cards with pictures of all the treasures they found!
These fish were hiding but we saved them with our game!

I agree with you 100%! I would never think to teach my kids about shipwrecks or sea sponges. I would only think of the obvious kid topics. Some days I look at what we are going to learn about and I think "hmm, I wonder how I am going to get them excited about this." But I don't have to worry because MGT does it for me. I am ALWAYS surprised at the topics that turn out to be our favorite.
